Your Opportunities List

This semester, I introduced you to an online database that lists both production and publication opportunities. This database is:
As part of your final portfolio, your job this semester will be to:

1) visit this website;
2) search for those production/publication opportunities that interest you most; and
2) report on 3-5 different opportunities seeking the type of play you are composing for this course.

The goal of this assignment is to get you to understand the importance of researching prospective publishing or production opportunities. After this course has ended, I encourage all of you to take that next step and submit your plays to some/all of the opportunities on your list.

To get your opportunities list started, you'll want to create a Google Doc in your Google Drive shared folder. Name the file like this: Opportunities-YourFullName (ex. Opportunities-JohnDoe).

YOUR LIST SHOULD INCLUDE 3 to 5 DIFFERENT
PUBLICATION OR PRODUCTION OPPORTUNITIES
AND IS DUE WITH YOUR FINAL PORTFOLIO.

Here is the format you should follow for each individual entry on your document:

Opportunity: provide the full name of the publication or production opportunity.
Website: Provide the website address for the opportunity.
Deadline: Provide the deadline for this opportunity.
Justification: No more than three short sentences detailing why you feel this opportunity is a perfect fit for your play.

And here's an example:

Opportunity: Magnolia Arts Center 13th Anniversary Playwriting Contest
Website: http://www.magnoliaartscenter.com/annual-play-writing-contest/

Deadline: April 30, 2018
Justification: This playwriting competition is seeking ten minute plays specifically, and open to all themes. Despite the $7 entry fee, I am able to submit my play online, and the grand prize is $50. What's more, I have family in Greenville, North Carolina, so if selected, I'd invite all my family to come see my play.
